Sigil Static Studios was founded by Kyle Emmerson to create imagery that goes beyond the surface. From editorial features and artistic collaborations to character work and conceptual projects, every shoot is an opportunity to explore new worlds, challenge the ordinary and tell a story that matters.
We work with models, artists, performers, brands and publications to create bold, evocative imagery rooted in authenticity, imagination and precision.
Kyle Emmerson
Photographer / Creative Director
Photography and film have been part of Kyle’s life for as long as he can remember. In 2023 he launched what was then RavensTale Creative while studying at Vancouver Island University — part side hustle to help fund the degree, part outlet for a growing interest in genre-driven photography and art. That instinct carried straight through into Sigil Static: fashion, cosplay, speculative fiction, and boudoir work, all shot the same way — find the character, find the story, then light it.
The style leans into bold genres on purpose — sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and anything with a mood worth chasing. Off set, that same narrative-design instinct runs through Kyle’s other work: he’s an award-winning writer (the Bill Juby Award for Excellence in Creative Writing, for his short story “A Fine Mess”), and has written and directed a short sci-fi film, Wild Syndrome, and a short documentary, Scattered Syntax. He’s currently in pre-production on a new documentary about creative processes, No F*cking Idea.

Ollie Henderson
Makeup Artist / Creative Collaborator
Ollie joined the studio in 2024 as resident makeup artist and has grown into a photographer in her own right since — she’s usually the one behind the second camera, or making sure a look survives the whole session. She and Kyle go back a long way; her parents and Kyle have been close friends for decades, close enough that Ollie is family, and the two even share a birthday.
Having a second creative eye on set — and someone dedicated to makeup and aesthetic — changes what a session can be: more looks, less downtime, and a friendlier room, especially for anyone shooting boudoir or a concept shoot for the first time.
Ollie graduated from high school in 2026 and is serious about pursuing her passions.

How We Got Here.
Sigil Static didn’t begin with a business plan. It began with an excuse to make things.
In 2023, while studying at Vancouver Island University, Kyle started RavensTale Creative as a way to explore photography beyond the classroom. The work quickly gravitated toward the strange and cinematic: fashion, cosplay, fantasy, horror, and character-driven concepts where a photograph could feel like a frame pulled from a larger story.
Then Ollie Henderson joined the party.
Originally joining as a makeup artist in 2024, Ollie soon found herself behind the camera as well. What had begun as a one-person creative outlet became a collaboration, and the scope of the work started growing with it.
So did the problem with the name.
RavensTale had always carried a gothic, alternative sensibility, but the work was becoming harder to fit inside that particular box. Photography led to video. Video led to commercial and narrative work. Sci-fi sat beside horror, fantasy beside fashion, polished brand work beside the weird experiments we make simply because we want to see if they’ll work.
Eventually, we realized we hadn’t changed direction. We’d outgrown the sign over the door.
Sigil Static Studios emerged from that realization: sigil for symbols, stories and the meanings we create; static for signal, media, interference and a little creative noise. A blending of both the mystical and the machine.
By 2026, Kyle’s photography had begun appearing in print, with four published sets across three magazines — a small but meaningful confirmation that there was an audience for the kind of work we wanted to make.
We’re still building. Still experimenting. Still finding new people to collaborate with and new stories worth telling.
The name changed, but the reason for doing it never did.
