The Story

A Y'allternative Pin-Up

Chrome & Ink takes the familiar language of western pin-up and gives it an alternative edge.

Katie-Ann is a Nanaimo tattoo artist whose appearance already speaks to the idea at the centre of the series: identity can be something we deliberately create. Her tattoos become part of the styling, sitting alongside cowboy boots, fringe, black denim and chrome.

The concept was simple: y’allternative.

Part country and part counterculture, the aesthetic occupies the space where western imagery collides with alternative fashion. Cowboy iconography doesn’t have to mean rhinestones and rodeos, just as tattoos don’t belong exclusively to punk clubs and urban streets.

The motorcycle completes that collision. Chrome and black steel contrast against skin and ink while carrying associations of freedom, movement and independence. Katie-Ann brings the rest: confidence, western styling and enough traditional pin-up attitude to acknowledge the genre without becoming beholden to it.

Chrome & Ink isn’t interested in choosing between country and alternative. It’s interested in what happens when those identities stop being treated as contradictions.

The result is contemporary pin-up built from blacktop, boots, tattoos and chrome—a little bit country and a little bit counterculture.
