Fallen brings together endings, beginnings and a pair of black wings with a story of their own.
Photographed with Kyra inside the abandoned mansion at Stone Hill Farm, the series places an otherworldly figure among collapsing walls, graffiti and the remains of a very human place. Rather than defining her as angel or demon, we left the character deliberately unresolved—something fallen, perhaps, but not necessarily defeated.
The wings themselves make the photographs particularly meaningful to me. They were handmade by a Ukrainian creator in Uzhhorod, not far from a war that continues around them, and were given to me as a birthday gift by my partner, Denise. Knowing where they came from gives an already symbolic object a very real history of creation amid extraordinary circumstances.
They deserved a project built around them.
Fallen also quietly closed another chapter. These were the final photographs I made with my Canon EOS T7 before moving to the R50.
I didn’t plan the symbolism, but I appreciate it now: a project about falling and transformation became the final work produced with the camera on which I’d learned so much of my craft.
The camera changed afterward.
The wings, thankfully, are only getting started.
