The Story

A Séance in Shadow and Flame

There are places where the boundary between the living and the dead feels impossibly thin.

Drawn to one such place, two women enter the ruins with a singular purpose: to call back someone who has already crossed that boundary. By candlelight they prepare their ritual. Cards are laid, the board waits, and fire illuminates painted faces as they reach into the darkness.

Something answers.

From beyond the veil emerges the woman they sought—a presence caught between memory and manifestation. For a fleeting moment, the dead walk again among the living.

But death does not surrender what it has taken freely.

What begins as communion becomes an exchange. Giving substance to the dead requires life from the living. As the connection strengthens, the two women surrender their own vitality, feeding the apparition while slowly diminishing themselves.

Life passes into death. Death reaches back into life.

Veil of Shadows is a photographic narrative about grief, longing, sacrifice and the desire to reach beyond mortality. Drawing on occult imagery, La Catrina-inspired makeup and the decay of an abandoned setting, the series imagines death not as an impenetrable wall, but as a threshold.

A threshold that can be crossed.

For a price.

“Death is not the opposite of life; it exists as a part of them.”

Haruki Murakami
